Screening for plagiarism

Journal of Islamic Mubādalah is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and publication ethics. To ensure that all submitted manuscripts meet the principles of responsible scholarly publishing, every manuscript submitted to the journal is screened for similarity using Turnitin or another appropriate similarity detection tool before being processed further in the editorial and peer review stages.

The similarity screening is conducted to identify possible plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, redundant publication, improper citation, excessive textual overlap, and other forms of academic misconduct. The similarity report is used as an editorial screening instrument and will be assessed carefully by the Editorial Board. The percentage of similarity is not the only basis for editorial decision-making, as the editors also consider the context, source of similarity, proper quotation, citation accuracy, methodological terminology, references, and other relevant academic factors.

Journal of Islamic Mubādalah applies a maximum similarity threshold of 25%. Manuscripts with a similarity score exceeding this threshold may be returned to the authors for clarification or revision, or may be rejected, depending on the nature and severity of the similarity detected. However, manuscripts with a similarity score below the threshold may also be rejected if they are found to contain plagiarism, self-plagiarism, unethical duplication, unattributed use of ideas, improper paraphrasing, or other forms of publication misconduct.

Plagiarism occurs when an author uses the words, ideas, data, arguments, interpretations, findings, images, tables, or other intellectual contributions of another person or source without proper acknowledgment. Plagiarism is considered a serious violation of academic ethics, whether it is committed intentionally or unintentionally. Authors are required to cite all sources accurately whenever they refer to specific information, concepts, arguments, data, findings, or interpretations derived from previous works.

When authors use the exact words of another source, quotation marks or block quotations must be used, accompanied by proper citation. Paraphrased ideas must also be properly cited, even when the authors rewrite or develop the ideas in their own words. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references, quotations, paraphrases, and borrowed ideas are clearly and accurately attributed to their original sources.

Self-plagiarism occurs when authors reuse substantial parts of their own previously published work without proper citation or disclosure. This includes duplicate submission, duplicate publication, salami publication, redundant publication, or the reuse of previously published text, data, tables, figures, or analysis without adequate acknowledgment. Authors must ensure that the manuscript submitted to Journal of Islamic Mubādalah is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal or publisher at the same time.

If potential plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or redundant publication is detected during the initial screening, peer review, editorial process, or after publication, the Editorial Board will evaluate the case in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policy. Depending on the seriousness of the case, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

1. Request an explanation or clarification from the author;

2. Return the manuscript for correction or revision;

3. Reject the manuscript before peer review;

4. Reject the manuscript after peer review;

5. Withdraw the acceptance decision if the misconduct is discovered after acceptance;

6. Retract or correct the published article if the misconduct is discovered after publication;

7. Notify the author’s institution or relevant authority when necessary.

Authors are fully responsible for the originality and integrity of the manuscripts they submit. By submitting a manuscript to Journal of Islamic Mubādalah, authors confirm that the manuscript is their original scholarly work, that all sources have been properly cited, that the manuscript does not infringe the rights of others, and that it has not been published or submitted elsewhere.

Journal of Islamic Mubādalah takes plagiarism and publication misconduct seriously. The journal reserves the right to reject, withdraw, correct, or retract any manuscript or published article that violates the standards of originality, academic integrity, and publication ethics.
